Harrison Hollow '13

Feel as though the haunt improved overall, still not where I want to be design wise. Good steps, but not huge ones. 2014 or 2015 will be in Erie County, may wait til 2015, TBD. More pics, night time included, to come.

  2. Thanks Willow, that is actually a bit of an homage to the Cloaked Ghost prop that Rot did a few years back and then was emulated some by Grim. I've wanted to try my own for a long time and had a few hours to kill one day and decided to go for it. the idea wa to try and make it appear as if the cloak fades into darkness as you get around the waist area I guess, not sure I attained that, but it's cool, I dig where it ended up. The hand...just one, was actually my son Dylans suggestion to just use sticks "like the scarecrows", so I found that one and decided to bend it some like fingers. Spray of black paint and I thought it looked pretty cool. Thanks again, glad you like it. My wife...that wasn't easy for me to do, nobody really knew aside from her folks and my Mom, I had a long talk with our kids, I was keeping up a pretty decent facade of being strong and confidant but inside I was a mess. I'd start something, get off track, throw it on the floor, shut off the lights and do nothing for a couple days. The entire process was almost the whole month, different tests, appointments, finally scheduling a biopsy, waiting for that. It was a huge relief to say the least when everything came back fine. When I first looked at Rots pics I just smiled, shook my head, laid it down and had a good cry to be honest, I couldn't respond then, just couldn't...I started and restarted that post a few times before finally deciding to mention Jamie, my wife. She had posted it on facebook, the results, mutual FB friends were asking me about it so I posted one of my first status updates in forever on there. Now I can't shut up about it, it would seem, FB, now What's Brewing, Today Show next apparently. But anyway, she is clear, that is what matters, my camera sucks at night shots, or my lighting sucks..., but, she is clear. Thanks again.

  3. Great man, we are 2 years in to being cancer free after having breast cancer that spread to some lymph nodes. yeah, Rot, and all you guys really helped in keeping me sane by giving me a distraction thru the chaos of surgery recovery for my wife. In fact, that was around when I decided to stop being a blog lurker and just finally start my blog. Lots of days crying/balling in the garage over glue mache and sticks and going to work with a brave face. And when i felt bad if i went to the garage while she sat on the couch, i moved a work table into the back of the t.v. room so i could be closeby. But she knew my hands had to keep busy moving. I made these amazing mini scarecrow maquettes during that time. Sculpting and building are like therapy and exercise for me. That's why Eden and I don't waste any time seizing life and appreciating everything. My best to you and your family, Cheers!

  4. Haunt looks great, man. Considering all that you were going through, everything turned out pretty cool.

Glad to hear your wife is in the free and clear.

  5. Thanks! I'm pretty happy with allot of it. Some things I wish I'd done differently but overall I think it got better. Gotten good feedback in the neighborhood, it's definitely different than anyone else's around here. Just looking to learn, improve and have fun.

  6. WC, thanks for sharing that. There were a couple nights where I wondered if things went south would I have the strength that you clearly do. Inspired... truly. Hope the good vibes continue for you.

  7. Think we all feel that way, never as good as we want. Looks damn good from your photos though! Has a bit of that Pumpkinrot "earthiness" to it.

  8. Thanks Mark. I appreciate the post. The " house", or whatever it is, was nothing like I drew it up. Supposed to be three pallets wide and just one tall with a branch roof. Many things got scrapped due to weather and just pure "eff it" attitude I guess. Usually I am knee deep in holiday prep at this point but this year I keep sketching ideas for haunt '14. Castle Dracula, Zombies, forgotten cemetery, witches in the corn... it's all bouncing around upstairs.
